My depression on a vegan diet, part of my Journey included a short visit from depression, anxiety along with a few panic attacks. As I was working on improving my diet to help heal my type 2 diabetes. I soon learned that it was a poor choice and it did not work. When I stopped consuming meats, I was also cutting off my access to the super important amino acid tryptophan which is a precursor to serotonin aka the happy chemical along with vitamin B12. The depletion of tryptophan and vitamin B12 on a vegan journey was what caused this visit from depression, along with the panic attacks to appear. Eating animal proteins are so vital to a healthy liver, avoiding depression and panic attacks, that I will not be attempting this path ever again. If you are considering your own food journey I highly recommended NOT walking on the path of a vegan journey. Tryptophan and vitamin B12 are only found in meats! consider these two very important nutrients when you start your own food journey. "Levels of tryptophan have hugely declined in the modern diet. When we ate wild animals that foraged on grasses and other plants, we got more tryptophan in our diets. Grain fed animals have much less of it, just as they have less omega-3 fatty acids. In addition, the natural production of serotonin is inhibited by caffeine, alcohol, and aspartame; a lack of sunlight; and a lack of exercise." "Food is the most abused anxiety drug. Exercise is the most underutilized antidepressant."
